Literature of Journalism/2011

Please say hello by leaving a comment to this post. Tell me something about yourself that you think it would be helpful for me to know. It can be related to writing, literature, or journalism, but doesn't have to be. I should hear from you by Sunday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m.

Hello. My name is Holly J. My major is English. My minor is journalism. Last semester I took Journalism 101 with Adam Bosch, who quotes you A LOT-we're talking at least once per class. I've always liked to read and write, which explains the major and minor.

Looking forward to meeting the infamous Professor Good.

p.s. Please don't ask me what Adam said. I can't quote him quoting you.

Hi Professor Good.
Zan Strumfeld, back for another class, and I am an English major with Journalism and Creative Writing minors. Possibly taking on a History minor this semester. I'm currently an editor for the Oracle but I want to see a different side of journalism and relate it to the more English part of me, if possible. I'm really looking forward to this class and seeing if it'll help me decide whatever is I want to actually do with my life. Excited for another semester with you.

Hello!

My name is Keith Carroll. I’m a junior majoring in Journalism with minors in History and Film Studies. I’m interested in learning about other types of journalism, ones that are more personal and not just hard news. I’m sure it will be fun to read, and write, in a new way. I’m also a Resident Assistant (RA) in one of the residence halls on campus, so there may be material within the class that I could pass on to my residents in a program.

See you Monday!

Keith

What's up, my name is Andrew. I'm an English major/Journalism minor in my last year of college. I'm taking the GRE in February. Those jokes about English majors not having jobs after college are getting less and less funny.

Hey Professor Good. This is my second class with you. I am a junior journalism major, with a soon to be minor in Political Science and maybe Black Studies. This is a required class for me as you know, but I'm excited to take it because I'm very interested in alternative forms of journalism. When I graduate I'm not picky in where I would work, as long as it's journalism related. It has been a dream of mine to work in sports media at some point, though.

Nothing like getting back from winter break in India to an email from you with a blog post. (not sarcastic)

I'm still Eden, back for more Professor Good. Excited to be taking another one of your classes after having loved the past two. Seems like everyone is writing their majors and minors so...

I'm a media management major and journalism minor.

I don't want to write for the local newspaper but am very interested in reading and analyzing different types of journalism, hence the journalism minor. I’m hoping that this semester I not only gain knowledge about the world of journalism but also become a better writer.

You haven't let me down in the past two years and once again am very eager to take another one of your wisdom sharing classes and dive deep into another aspect of journalism.

See you Monday, hope your month off was full of all good things.

What's up everybody, my name is Malcolm Harper and I'm a media management major. I am also taking a minor in Black studies. Last semester I took Media Ethics with you and really enjoyed your teaching style because you were an effective communicator. I enjoy journalism and analyzing it from another perspective will better enhance the way I analyze the news today.

Hola

My name is Amanda.
I am a third year student here and I am a journalism major. I hope to declare a minor in women studies in the near future.

Last semester, I took media ethics with you and was quite frankly, scared shitless at first. This was due to a combination of your extremely raw character and a realization that my views of journalism were very distorted.

I learned plenty from you as my teacher last semester and I trust that I will continue to be exposed to the different perspectives of journalism.

See you Monday

Hey!
It's been a long semester since I've been in your classroom - looking forward to it.
I'm a journalism major. Last semester I was multimedia editor of The Little Rebellion.
Now, Good, I've heard you say this is a "fluff" outlet of journalism, but ideally I would like to be a music journalist for a magazine.

See ya on Monday!

Hello Professor Good, my name is Roberto Cruz. I am a journalism major. I transfered to SUNY New Paltz this fall. I am about to start my second semester. To be honest I could not have been happier with how my first semester went. I am pretty excited to see what literature is presented to us, and I am hoping I can bring something to class discussions. I have never had to write a blog before. I am looking forward your class. Thank You!

Hi Professor Good,
I am obviously starting off this semester poorly by responding to this late but I am very excited to be taking yet another one of your classes! I am really excited to take this course and explore new types of journalism. I think it will be interesting to view journalism in more a creative light. I am coming to the end of my college career and I sometimes feel that I don't want to go into t he field I'm majoring it so I am hoping maybe more journalism classes will help me make up my mind. I am really looking forward to the class and

Hello Professor Good,
My name is Sunya Bhutta and I am a senior, English major and journalism minor. I am currently the editorial intern at Hudson Valley Magazine. I have also interned at Chronogram magazine and with a freelance writer for Rolling Stone magazine. I am very passionate about arts and culture writing. I am looking forward to this class because as an English major and journalism minor, I feel like it will combine both of the fields I study. I am also enrolled in your Media Ethics course which I have heard a lot about. I am really looking forward to finally meeting you.

Hey Professor Good and Class,

I'm Brandon Quinn, a junior journalism major at SUNY New Paltz. I'm really excited to start this class because the past two classes I've taken with you have been entertaining, challenging, exciting and interesting.

My ultimate goal is to become a sports journalist, and I know the prejudice that comes with such a statement, but it's simply what I am interested in and will allow me to do what I enjoy, write, while covering what I love, sports.

I'm pretty opinionated and say some things in class sometimes that won't be very popular, but I look forward to the debate.

Should be fun.

Hi, my namr is Natassia (pronounced Natasha), and I am a senior studying Journalism/PR. I have done some freelance work, but would really like to go into non-profit PR as a profession. I love to read and write. In 2009 I received the Parkhurst Creative Writing Award from SUNY Orange for a short story, and later this year I will be working as a collaborator and editor on a non-fiction work with a new author.

I am looking forward to this class, to exploring a different side of journalism, and of course, the writing!

Hey everybody.

My name is Colin Vallee, and I am a Journalism Major with a concentration in Public Relations.

This is my fourth class with proffy G. so I am practically a veteran. I'm looking forward to some more mental expansion.

Everyone is definitely in for a good time. (get it?)

Hi Professor --

I'm Emily. I'm a journalism major with a minor in political science. I am excited for this class because lately I've been into writing about things that other people consider really boring, and I've been stuck into this writing style that emphasizes its boringness. This is my last semester at college (halleluj!) and I'm excited to break free from the rigid style of writing I've become so accustomed to. Also excited to complete all my blog posts on time.

Also, it's probably helpful for you to know that its very difficult for me to stifle any of my opinions about anything through my facial expressions. I can keep my mouth shut, but my face. It gives EVERYTHING away.

Looking forward to a funny semester!
